Light of mercy center

Light of Mercy Center is a center for children with disabilities (deaf, blind or hindered by old illness). It was born out of the loving compassion heart of two sisters: Sr. Marie-Adelphe, Providence Sister, and Sr. Denise, sister of Mercy.

Stuck by what they saw in villages where many children with disabilities were left alone unattended at home when their parents were away for working in the rice field or somewhere else, the sisters truly wanted to help them.

The center started in 1997 by renting a house in Toul Kok district, Phnom-Penh. In 2004, the center moved to the present building built specially for disabled children by the Providence Sisters, near the Boeung Tumpun Parish.

The centre was called Light of Mercy Home with the idea that it would give light to the children who are in the darkness because of their disabilities and impairments. This center is to become for them a home which has an atmosphere full of mercy and loving compassion.

Nowadays, around 30 children and youths live in the center, under the supervision of two providence sisters and few employees. During the day they go to school, and during the evening and the weekend they stay at the center, where they enjoy a community life.

The staff also visits and supports families with disabled children outside Phnom Penh, because all children cannot be welcomed at the center.
